Buying
Where can you buy a weighted stuffed animal?
Weighted stuffed animals are sold in many places. With this checklist you can assess any weighted stuffed animal, wherever you buy it. Below it, you can read more about Hugsback, the brand we work with.
Checklist
What should you look for when buying?
- CE marking on the label or packaging, plus a physical address for the manufacturer or importer.
- Tested to the toy safety standard EN 71; ask about it if it isn't mentioned.
- A clear age recommendation. A weighted stuffed animal is not suitable for children under 3 in any case.
- The weight is stated, and the user can easily lift the stuffed animal and push it away themselves.
- Strong seams and an inner bag or compartments that keep the filling together.
- No loose parts, such as eyes that could come off or a zip that a child can open.
- A clear care label, and a trial period or option to return it, so you can try the weight at home.
- Honest claims: be wary of promises such as ‘proven effect’ or striking percentages without a source.
